Hewetson The Passion of Christ (first performance)

CBC by the Sea! The 100 singers of City of Bristol Choir travel to Dorset to give the first performance of a work by Christchurch-based composer Roger Hewetson. Scored for large choir, narrator, soloists and orchestra this is a moving and atmospheric piece that narrates the Passion narrative in an accessible and powerful way.

Four choral classics from across the ages make up the first half: Parry’s uplifting and majestic I was glad, Haydn’s jubilant and bouncy Te Deum, an arrangement of the traditional spiritual Deep River, and Samuel Barber’s soaring and heartfelt Agnus Dei, the composer’s own choral arrangement of his famous Adagio for Strings.
