Carmina Burana

Sunday 14th June 2009 at 6pm
The Red Maids' School, Westbury Road, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol BS9 3AW

With Charlotte Newstead soprano
Martin Le Poidevin baritone
Stephen Browne and Richard Johnson pianos
Regency Percussion Ensemble directed by Jeremy Little

Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana is one of the most famous and popular of all choral works because of its dramatic and unforgettable choruses. Alongside these, there are moments of exquisite beauty and tenderness. The words originate from a selection of 24 poems found in a 13th century monastery in Bavaria and are set with compelling rhythm driving the piece ever onwards – helped along in this performance by virtuosic double piano accompaniment and a colossal percussion ensemble. Bringing together the forces of City of Bristol Choir and young voices from Red Maids’ School, this promises to be a fantastic evening’s entertainment.

Tickets £12 (£10 concessions, £3 under 18s)

All seating is unreserved.
