The High Sheriff's Concert is an annual fundraising event and a highlight of the City's Civic Calendar, celebrating the work and interests of the High Sheriff at the time. This year's concert celebrates the work of British composers who were active in the period before the start of the First World War, and includes music by Vaughan Williams, Elgar, Butterworth and Parry, performed by the Brandon Hill Chamber Orchestra, the City of Bristol Choir and Bristol Schools Chamber Choir.

The earliest piece in the programme, Parry's Blest Pair of Sirens, commissioned for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. The Wasps Overture was written by Parry's pupil Vaughan Williams in 1909 and The Shropshire Lad Rhapsody by Vaughan Williams' great friend George Butterworth in 1913. The second half of the concert is devoted to Elgar's most popular work, from 1898/9, the Enigma Variations.

The surplus raised by the concert will be divided between the High Sheriff's Fund and Bristol Cathedral Trust. The High Sheriff's Fund supports Bristol Youth and Community Action (BYCA), which provides holiday activities for young people from less-advantaged backgrounds in Bristol. Bristol Cathedral Trust is the charitable arm of Bristol Cathedral and seeks funds on behalf of Bristol Cathedral to maintain the Cathedral Fabric and to strengthen its vital work and historic role in the city and Diocese.
