The great Duke Ellington wrote three sacred works between 1965 & 1973 describing them as "the most important thing I have ever done".

This concert features choice selections from all 3 concerts and will be performed by the 16-piece Big Buzzard Big Band led by Andy Williamson and featuring the cream of south-west jazz talent. 180 singers from City Of Bristol Choir, Exultate Singers, Bristol Schools Chamber Choir and Kidderminster Choral Society will perform Ellington's libretto, a combination of bible passages and the Duke's own words. Featured vocalist is Bristol's own Yolanda Quartey of Phantom Limb and Massive Attack fame and UK tap maestro Annette Walker.
